ICD-Code F05.9: Delirium, unspecified

You have delirium. This has caused your consciousness to be temporarily altered.

With delirium, people are generally less aware than normal. Their perception of the environment and of their own behavior is less clear. As a result, it may be difficult to deal with new situations or communicate with others. There may be a temporary state of extreme restlessness and a strong urge to move. In other situations, a person may possibly move very little and become withdrawn. In certain cases, people may be unable to sleep at night and be very sleepy during the day. Some people may no longer know where they are or who they are. There may also be temporary memory problems.

The symptoms typically develop suddenly and may change over the course of a day. There is a physical reason for the symptoms. For example, delirium can be caused by damage to the brain, by medication or by other illnesses. Delirium may also occur after surgery.
