Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart.Veins may also widen if the blood cannot drain normally and pools in the veins. Veins below the tongue may widen due to aging or increased blood pressure, for example. Possible symptoms of widened veins include a burning sensation on the tongue or a feeling of heaviness in the mouth. However, widened veins may also cause no symptoms at all.
