ICD-Code Q44.6: Cystic disease of liver

Cavities have formed in your liver.

The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.

Cavities developed in your liver during your development in the womb. These cavities are typically filled with fluid. The cavities may be of different sizes and occur in different parts of the liver. The cavities may get bigger over time. As a result, the overall size of the liver may increase.

An enlarged liver can produce symptoms. You may experience a feeling of fullness or a loss of appetite. Other possible symptoms are nausea or pain in the upper right abdomen. An enlarged liver can cause the abdomen to swell.

The development of such cavities can be hereditary. Other family members can also be affected by a hereditary disorder.
