ICD-Code R41.3: Other amnesia
You are unable to remember new information and can no longer remember past events.
Various conditions can cause a person to be unable to remember new information or to lose certain memories. For example, memory can be impaired by an injury or inflammation of the brain. If the brain is no longer getting a sufficient supply of blood, this can also impair memory.
The severity of the memory impairment depends, for example, on the cause and the extent of the damage. If the memory of a certain event or a limited period of time is lost, this is known as a memory lapse.
