ICD-Code T56.2: Toxic effect: Chromium and its compounds
You have had harmful exposure to chromium or its compounds.
Chromium is a heavy metal. Chromium is used, for example, in coatings and dyes.
A metal or metal compound can harm the body in various ways. The symptoms often depend on which type of contact the person has had with the metal. For example, skin contact with metal could cause skin damage. Poisoning can occur if a person ingests metal with food or inhales metal vapors.
Exposure to chromium can cause discoloration and burning of the mucous membranes. It can also cause bloody diarrhea or vomiting. Skin contact with chromium over an extended period sometimes causes a skin rash. If chromium is repeatedly inhaled over a long period of time, it can eventually cause dust-related lung disease or lung cancer.
