ICD-Code U55.21: On waiting list for lung transplant: With U [urgency] or HU [high urgency] status
You are waiting for a donor lung.
You need lungs to breathe. When we breathe in, oxygen enters the lungs and accumulates in the blood. This blood then flows to the heart. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. All of the organs are supplied with oxygen as a result.
If important organs are no longer working, then a replacement organ may help. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. The donor organ or donor tissue has to be removed surgically.
You need a donor lung urgently. This is why you have been given priority on the waiting list for organ donation.
