You had an operation due to a femoral hernia.

A femoral hernia develops at a weak spot in the abdominal wall.The abdominal wall is the front part of the abdomen. The abdominal wall is made up of various layers. From the outermost to the innermost, the layers are: the skin, the fatty tissue, the muscles and various connective tissue layers. The abdominal wall is very solid. The organs thus remain in the abdomen even at high pressure.

The abdominal wall has weak points in some places. At these weaker points, the abdominal wall is thinner, or there are natural gaps in the abdominal wall. These weak spots include, for example, the groin between the abdomen and thighs. If the connective tissue becomes weaker, tissue from the abdominal cavity can bulge outward through the weak spot. This is also known as a hernia. A femoral hernia is located below the groin.

You have had a laparoscopy.A laparoscopy first involves making a small incision in the abdomen. A tube with a camera is pushed through this incision into the abdomen. This camera sends pictures of the inside of the abdomen to a screen. Tools such as forceps and scissors can be inserted through other small incisions in the abdomen.

During the operation, the abdominal cavity was also opened, and the bulging tissue was pushed back into the abdominal cavity. Afterwards, a synthetic mesh was placed over the weak spot in the abdominal wall from the inside. This mesh is intended to reinforce the abdominal wall in the area of the weak spot.
