During an endoscopic examination of your ureter and renal pelvis, one or more kidney stones were removed.
There are 2 kidneys in the body. There is one on each side of the spine just below the ribcage. Each kidney is made up of renal tissue and a renal pelvis. The renal tissue purifies the blood and, by doing so, produces urine. The urine gathers in the renal pelvis.
The urinary passages include the ureters, bladder and urethra. Urine flows from both kidneys into the bladder via the ureters. The urethra channels the urine outward from the bladder.
The endoscopic examination involves a thin tube or scope being passed through the urethra. The tube or scope is then advanced to the ureter and renal pelvis. Small instruments can be inserted into the ureter and the renal pelvis through the tube or scope. These instruments can be used to remove kidney stones, for example. Your kidney stone or stones were first crushed and then removed.
