An artificial urine diversion was created during an operation.
The ureter is a thin, muscular tube in the abdomen. There is usually one ureter on each side. The urine flows from the kidney, via the ureter, to the bladder.
To create an artificial urine diversion, a section of your small intestine was removed. The ureters were then connected to one end of this section of small intestine. The other end of this section of small intestine was stitched to the skin of the abdomen. This is intended to allow the urine to drain to the outside. The urine can then be collected in a bag, for example.
