You have previously had a tape or mesh inserted into your pelvis due to urinary incontinence or a displacement of the pelvic organs. This tape or mesh was cut, or partially or completely removed, during another operation.
The pelvic floor consists of a series of muscles and connective tissue. It uses them to hold the organs in the abdomen and pelvis in place. The pelvic floor also helps to keep the urethra and anus closed, for example.
The reproductive organs are located in the pelvis, as are the bladder and the final section of the large intestine. The organs are also held in place by the pelvic floor and by ligaments. The body’s ligaments consist of taut connective tissue. If the pelvic floor or ligaments weaken, the pelvic organs can become displaced, or urinary incontinence may occur. Urinary incontinence involves the involuntary loss of urine.
If the pelvic organs become displaced or urinary incontinence occurs, a tape or mesh can be inserted in some cases. This kind of tape or mesh is intended to support the organs. During your surgery, this kind of tape or mesh was cut or partially or completely removed. The operation was carried out via your vagina.
