There are 2 bones in the lower leg, the tibia and the fibula. The tibia is on the inside of the leg. The fibula is on the outside of the leg. Both bones in the lower leg have an upper, middle and lower section.The upper section of the shinbone forms the knee joint together with the thighbone and the kneecap.
You had an operation to change the alignment of your shinbone. To change the alignment of a shinbone, the upper section is first partially cut. Then the shinbone is moved into the desired position and stabilized again. You had your shinbone aligned in such a way that the weight of your body shifts more towards the outside of the knee joint. This kind of operation is typically performed so that body weight is distributed more evenly across the entire knee joint.
Plates and screws, for example, can be used to stabilize the bone again.
