The foot is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The lower leg is connected to the tarsus. Then comes the metatarsus and then the individual toes.The metatarsus consists of 5 elongated metatarsal bones.The big toe consists of 2 toe bones. The other toes consist of 3 toe bones.
There are joints between the metatarsal bones and the adjacent toe bones. These joints are also called metatarsophalangeal joints. Joints allow movement between the bones.
Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The joint capsule is thickened beneath the base joints of the toes. This is also referred as the plantar plate. The plantar plate helps to stabilize the joint and keep the toe in position. You had your plantar plate repaired.
