A second joint connects the shoulder blade to the collarbone. The collarbone is also connected to the sternum by another joint.Joints are encased in a joint capsule.The joint capsule contains synovial fluid. This enables the bones to slide easily past one another.
The needle can be used, for example, to drain excess synovial fluid, pus, or blood from the joint.
