You had a needle inserted into one or more joints between the carpal bones and the metacarpal bones.
The metacarpus forms the palm of the hand and the back of the hand. It consists of the longish metacarpal bones. There is one metacarpal bone for each finger.Joints are encased in a joint capsule.The joint capsule contains synovial fluid. This enables the bones to slide easily past one another.
The needle can be used, for example, to drain excess synovial fluid, pus or blood from the joint.
