The tarsal bones form the rear part of the foot.The metatarsus consists of 5 elongated metatarsal bones.Joints are encased in a joint capsule.The joint capsule contains synovial fluid. This enables the bones to slide easily past one another.
The needle can be used, for example, to drain excess synovial fluid, pus, or blood from the joint.
