OPS-Code 8-630.3:

Electrical stimulation of nervous system: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT): Treatment session

You were treated with brief electrical impulses to the brain.

During this treatment, short electrical impulses are delivered to the brain via two contact pads on the head. This intentionally triggers a seizure in the brain for a short time.

A brief general anesthetic is given for the treatment. During the anesthetic, you are unconscious and feel no pain. In addition, the muscles are relaxed by a medication so that you do not feel the seizure. You are monitored by medical personnel throughout the entire treatment. The treatment is typically performed several times at specific intervals.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
