OPS-Code 9-268:
Perinatal measures: Monitoring and management of birth, unspecified
You received medical care during the birth.
Childbirth is physically demanding for both the mother and the baby. This is why mother and baby are looked after by medical personnel during childbirth. During this process, for example, the mother's blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature are measured. The mother’s contractions and the baby’s heart rate are monitored.During labor, the muscles of the uterus contract. During the birth contractions push the child out of the uterus. Contractions take place mainly towards the end of the pregnancy and during childbirth.
If contractions during labor are perceived as painful, various measures can alleviate this pain. To assess the progress of labor, vaginal examinations are also performed. The vagina is tubular and leads from the outside to the uterus.
After the birth of a baby, the placenta has to detach itself from the uterus. The delivery of the placenta is medically supervised. This is to ensure that the placenta detaches completely from the uterus. The placenta forms in the mother’s womb during pregnancy. The placenta consists of cells from the mother and cells from the unborn child. The placenta supplies the unborn child with nutrients and oxygen via the umbilical cord.
