ICD-Code Q78.0: Osteogenesis imperfecta

You have a condition affecting the structure of your bones.

The disease is hereditary. Other family members may therefore also be affected. With this condition, a change in genetic information causes a certain protein in the body to be made incorrectly. This protein is used in the bones and many other tissues in the body. If this protein is not made correctly, the bones and tissues are not as stable as normal.

This condition typically results in bones fracturing more easily. The bones may also develop an abnormal shape. Muscles and joints may be painful. The teeth may also be affected. In this case, they tend to be more prone to wear. Hearing may also be impaired. The whites of the eyes may take on a bluish color.
